Exactly, Texas is not the South, it's Texas. Please, don't argue with Texans about this. Not even geographically is Texas the South. It's the Southwest. And yes we are authentically friendly. It's fun.
Don't call Buc-ee's a truck stop. No semi trucks, with or without a trailer, are allowed on the property. This is a family friendly gas station and rest stop without trucks.
Absolutely!!! If you are lucky enough to meet someone with some long time history of the area you are in, youll be amazed at their knowlege.I was raised in Cypress/Tomball Texas from the mid 60s. I have memories of a very rural area, like you'd see in old western movies. Very little of it is the same as itbwas then. But those 2 towns now have history museums of the original town, families, and lifestyle of the time. Lots of photos and many of the roadway names tell a history of the founding German families of the towns. Im Soooo lucky to have experienced that slow, happy life that is getting rarer and rarer as the years pass.
Fun fact: Buc-ees doesn’t allow 18-wheelers! Definitely not a truck stop. More like a “family stop” or “300-member high school band on a road trip stop” 😂
Some of these I disagree with. Just like every other place in the world, not everyone is nice and holds the door and has this perfect utopia vibe to em where everyone says “howdy yall!”. There’s crazy people and a lot of them in Texas. A lot The drivers are terrible drivers. You can mind your manners but don’t expect them to give the same niceness back. It’s honestly not much different then any other places in terms of people. There’s dirty places in Texas and clean places in Texas
It doesn't snow it ices… and we close down for two days. And for the love of all that is Holy, hold a door for someone and get out of the LEFT LANE. We are the most Prideful.
Watch out with people in clearly already dead shit boxes on the highway:They will force themselves into your lane and you will never win that game of chicken. Do not insigate, swallow your pride, and just take the loss then enjoy the rest of your dayAlso, check out Scheels in The Colony, Tx. It's one of the coolest places out there and check out Legacy West in Plano. It's the closest you'l get to a "walkable city"
Don't litter and don't honk unless you're about to be hit by another car. We're patient. It's rude. But also be careful because lately, a green light at an intersection does not mean just Go. It means watch to see how many cars are going to go right through their light after it's clearly Red. Just watch before you proceed. Chuy's is not only great TexMex but each restaurant is different and all are quirky and cool.
Please don't bring your "Well, back home in California/Oregon/New Jersey…" comments to Texas. We (hopefully) don't bring what we do here when we visit YOUR state. As Mr. Wolters said, DO bring your manners. Don't complain about "how small" the area around the Alamo is. It was surrounded by the city. If you want the feel for the true Mission San Antonio de Valero aka the Alamo, go down the Mission Trail to Mission San Jose. It is still a functional Catholic Parrish, and the surrounding grounds are roughly the size of the enclosed area of the Alamo in 1853-1836.
In San Antonio, don't forget that there are several military bases, and that we have a LOT of veterans and active duty military here. Be sure to give them your respect and gratitude.
#1 Texas A&M is the first public school of higher learning starting in 1876. Also Texas A&M is the conservative public university in Texas and the nation.
If I rent a car though, would I have to drive it back to the place I rented it at or can I go to another state and bring it there and they take care of the car?
It's honestly really funny to me that you have to park your car, to than take another car. haha, as a Dutch person I really didn't see that one coming.
Don't try and cross the road as a pedestrian if you value your life… Sidewalks also just lead to nothing, just Uber everywhere and don't try and walk like me, it's a waste of time
This video is spot on, especially the part about manners. Manners are VERY important. I have cousins in Amarillo and Lubbock and with this in mind it's fair to say that not all of Texas is the same. West Texas in mainly oil, cattle ranching, feed lots, Raider Power, and cotton on the high plains. East Texas is much more about farms and is closer to the south in many regards than West Texas is. The hill country is pretty in the spring, Austin is way liberal and West Texas is simply not. Plus Austin has that team down south with a steer for a mascot. A steer, a moving hamburger, of all damn things. (This is for my cousins!)
Don’t forget to pay attention 😂 Truth. Buc-ee’s is overrated IF your not into clean restrooms and brisket. DON’T eat at taco cabana DO eat at Taco Palenque.
It says it was filmed in San Antonio, but I recognize this Buc-ees because it's my local one, it's in New Braunfels, about 20 minutes away from the outskirts of San Antonio, lol
1. Buc-ee’s is NOT a “truck stop” (they actually don’t allow semis!)2. The Alamo IS one of the Spanish missions 3. New Braunfels is the best summer vacation spot in Texas (followed by Galveston). I don’t understand people’s obsession with San Antonio (it’s BORING)
Yes we Texans love manners it’s ingrained into our soul. And we give it back to those who do back in return and yea we know what’s up always ask us about it

Dont forget to drink big red with your tex-mex food.

We just different here
I’m just happy my town was #1 in Grocery stores and burger joints.. and the Butts and Dobsons were chill

Don’t skip out on Blanco Cafe in San Antonio if you want really good breakfast the night after trying out all that great local beer on the Riverwalk 🍺
Fun fact: Buc-ees doesn’t allow 18-wheelers! Definitely not a truck stop. More like a “family stop” or “300-member high school band on a road trip stop” 😂
Lol lone star beer comment
Lived in Tx for a couple yrs when I was a kid, Ive always felt I left my heart there, hope to move back soon

Here in Texas if someone tells you they want a coke your next question is what kind . A coke is any type of soft drink. Not just a specific brand.

Buc-ee's its not a truck stop. They don't accept trucks there 😛
Yes, we are polite and expect it in return. If you are rude you will be treated rudely. We are nice but not push overs.
Buc-ees is not a truck stop. In fact they do not allow 18 wheelers in the parking lots.

As I always say we got it all!!!

As an aside Miller beer is made in Texas.
Note: Bucee's is NOT a truck stop. Trucks are not allowed there.

DON'T CALIFORNIA TEXAS!!!
I went to Texas for my Thanksgiving break, and I want to go back!
I am a Texan, born and raised and this guy has some really good points.
We say "Yes ma'am" and "No Sir." Remember this if you are pulled over for any reason in Texas. formal politeness goes a long way.
The don'ts? Don't give your tourist money to a Handmaid's Tale state.

queso IS a way of life 😂

As a born and raised Texan, I approve of this video 😂. Also don’t forget the Holy Trinity of Texas: Buc-ee’s, whataburger, and H‑E‑B.
Don't steal our cows..it's an actual law in Texas that if you steal someone's cattle… we have the right to hang you
You made me hungry! 🌮

Why would people spend their precious vacation time in Texas?
I35 needs a high speed rail. Too many cars, too few lanes
